Portraits of Home is a series of short films about the newcomer experience in Toronto.
Amadeus’ 2021/2022 season begins with Portraits of Home: a series of three music videos that will bring to life the music and stories of three diverse creators. The pieces touch on themes such as the newcomer experience, the meaning of home, and what Toronto means to people who create a new life here. Each video, filmed at a beautiful outdoor Toronto location, features the choir and collaborators performing the pieces.
Portraits of Home includes works created or adapted for the Amadeus choir by composers Natalie Fasheh, Pouya Hamidi and Waleed Abdulhamid. Each composer has taken a profoundly personal approach when crafting their piece, drawing inspiration from the intersections of their identity as a newcomer in Canada.
The choir has had the fantastic opportunity to collaborate with the composers throughout the rehearsal process, helping to develop a deeper understanding of the music and the stories they will be sharing.
Portraits of Home is one of Amadeus’s most personal and profoundly moving projects yet and hopes to inspire audiences to reflect upon the meaning of home.
